This website has been created in the effort to connect those of us who experience the life of a sibling of a person with special needs. Whether it be Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, or any type of mental or physical special need, we all face similar challenges, obstacles, triumphs, and tough decisions. This site’s mission is to act as a bridge between the siblings of special needs people with one another as well as experts and sources of information. Our experiences are unique and something to be shared. The good, bad, funny, uncomfortable, frustrating, etc emotions are all welcomed here. Thank you.

Who’s who?

My name is Kristen and I have a special needs brother. Technically he has pseudo- pseudo-hypothyroidism-yeah I’m not entirely sure what that means either. Basically my brother is mentally handicapped and physically handicapped. As the younger sibling of someone with special needs, it’s important to me to create a community in which other siblings who are like me have a place to come and express their feelings. At the moment, I am a 22-year old graduate student at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I graduated from Villanova University this past May 2009 after having been heavily involved in Special Olympics. What little free time I do manage to have, I spend with my brother or here writing about issues that either matter to me or somehow effect me or the life I will eventually have. I hope that someday this website will have multiple people contributing as well as some sort of forum offline.
